What is Zylet Used For?
Zylet Ophthalmic Suspension is an eye drop medication used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.
Zylet for pink eye and swelling that is symptomatic of a bacterial infection can also be treated by this medication.
Zylet Dosage
The recommended dosage and the number of times you will use this eye medicine will depend on the evaluation of your doctor. It depends on your present condition and tolerance to treatment.
The typical daily dose of this ophthalmic solution is one or two drops four to six hours apart. Note that during the first 24 to 48 hours, the dosage may be administered every one to two hours, depending on your healthcare professional. Do not exceed or change the dosage of this eye medication without first consulting your doctor. Doing so may decrease the effectiveness of the drug and increase the likelihood of experiencing unwanted side effects.
This drug is available in eye drop suspension with a 0.3%/0.5% strength.
How to Use Zylet
Always follow your doctor’s instructions closely when using this medication. Be sure to ask them any questions if you are unsure of anything and thoroughly read the label before use. Never take more of this medication than your doctor prescribed for you.
Instructions:
- Wash your hands before using this medication.
- Remove contacts if you’re wearing any.
- Tilt your head back slightly and pinch your lower eyelid. Pull it back to create a pocket for the drops to go into.
- Hold the dropper above your eye pointed down with a small amount of fluid in the vial.
- Lightly squeeze the bulb of the eyedropper to allow single drops to fall from the dropper. Let one drop fall into your eye and wait 5 minutes. If you are prescribed for more than one drop, repeat this step after the 5 minutes are up.
- Do not let the tip of the eye dropper come into contact with your eye. This is to help reduce the risk of new and recurring infections.
- If you forget to take your dose, have the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for the next one.

Zylet vs Tobradex
Tobradex is an ophthalmic solution that’s used to treat bacterial infections similar to Zylet. Tobradex uses one of Zylet’s active ingredients Tobramycin; however, it uses dexamethasone instead of loteprednol. Dexamethasone is also a type of corticosteroid that reduces swelling and inflammation. For this reason, Zylet and Tobradex have similar anti-bacterial qualities but may have a slightly varied effect on inflammation due to the difference in steroidal compounds. There may be one or a few reasons why either medication may be better for you. Consult your doctor to find out which medication is best for you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does Zylet work?
Zylet contains a combination of the active ingredients tobramycin and loteprednol.
Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic compound with anti-bacterial properties. It works to stop the growth of certain species of eye bacteria.
Loteprednol is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. Corticosteroids work by inhibiting the body’s inflammation response to trauma. The reduction in swelling can ease painful symptoms associated with eye infections.
Who should not use Zylet?
Do not use this medication if you have hypersensitivity to any of Zylet’s ingredients. Allergic reactions can cause redness, hives, swelling in the face or throat, and difficulty breathing. Contact emergency medical services immediately if you notice an allergic reaction starting.
This is intended to treat bacterial infections only. Other types of infections, including fungal infections and viral infections, require other types of medicine to treat. You should not use this medication to treat bacterial infections if there is another infection present in the eye.
If you wear contact lenses, you may still use these eye drops, however, it will be necessary to take them out before administering the eye drops and leaving them out for 15-30 minutes afterward.
If you are using any other eye medications to treat eye infections or conditions, speak with your doctor before using this medication.
Is Zylet a steroid?
Zylet is a steroid antibiotic eye medication that treats eye inflammation (swelling) and bacterial infections.
Is Zylet an antibiotic?
This eyedrop suspension contains a combination of a corticosteroid and an antibiotic for treating inflammation caused by surgery, infection, allergies, and other conditions in the eyes.
