What is Lumigan?
Lumigan (generic: bimatoprost) Eyedrops is used to reduce elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma. By decreasing the high pressure in the eye, this medication could prevent blindness.
This ophthalmic solution works by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor through uveoscleral and trabecular meshwork routes. This mechanism of action decreases the level of intraocular pressure (IOP), thus preventing optic nerve damage and visual field loss. This is available in Lumigan 0.01% (0.1 mg/mL of bimatoprost) and Lumigan 0.03% (0.3 mg/mL of bimatoprost).
How to use Lumigan Eyedrops
Before using this Eyedrops, make sure to read the medication information leaflet that comes with it. Do not use Lumigan unless you have thoroughly understood all information and instructions in the guide. If you need additional information or medical advice, you may ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Apply this Eyedrops regularly and with a dosing schedule to achieve the full benefit. This medication is usually used once in the evening. However, your dosage and frequency would still depend on your medical condition and response to treatment. Use this solution even if you feel well.
Step by step guide in using Lumigan Eyedrops:
- Before applying this Lumigan eyedrop, wash and dry your hands to prevent contamination and infection. Do not touch the dropper.
- Open the eye solution bottle. Slightly lean your head back and gently pull down the lower eyelid.
- Hold the dropper directly over your eye. Look up and squeeze a drop into the pouch of the lower eyelid.
- Look downward and close your eye for one to two minutes. As you do this, press the inner corner of the eye to prevent the medication from draining. Do not squint or rub your eye.
- Replace the dropper cap and keep it tightly closed after each use.
If you are prescribed other eye medications, you will have to wait for at least 5 minutes before applying the other drugs. Remember that eye drops should be administered before eye ointments to allow absorption.

Precautions
It is highly important to disclose your full medical history to your physician, particularly any history of macular edema, lens extraction or aphakia, uveitis, iritis, or other eye problems. These disorders may affect how you would respond to the treatment, in addition. Talk to your doctor about all the prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and supplements that you are taking, as they may have drug interactions with bimatoprost.
It is necessary to look out for Lumigan allergy while using this medication. Do not administer this ophthalmic solution if you have a known allergy to bimatoprost, latanoprost, travoprost, other similar drugs, and inactive ingredients this solution may contain.
