Lidex Cream Uses

Lidex cream is a topical corticosteroid ointment that’s used to treat a variety of skin conditions, such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, rashes, and allergic reactions of the skin. Lidex can reduce swelling, irritation, and itching associated with these skin conditions.

This medication is ideal for inflamed or pus-filled blisters or lesions.

Lidex Cream Generic

To help reduce the Lidex Cream cost, generic formulations containing the same active ingredient are sold under the name Fluocinonide.

How does it work?

Topical corticosteroids such as Lidex cream are strong medications that alter how the cells in the body function. Lidex has a number of effects.

Anti-inflammatory — This medication prevents interactions between cells in the body caused by certain hormones. Inflammation is an immune response to tissue damage, stress, and harmful substances. Fluocinonide

Antipruritic — Antipruritic medications prevent and soothe itching. Histamine is a chemical produced by the immune system that acts as a warning against irritants and allergens. Antipruritic work by blocking the effects of Histamine.

Vasoconstrictor — Lidex can also reduce swelling. This effect is thanks to the vasoconstrictor effects. Vasoconstriction refers to the tightening of the wall in blood vessels. This can reduce blood flow to the desired area and prevent swelling.

GENERIC NAME(S): FLUOCINONIDE

Fluocinonide alleviates the swelling, itching, and redness that often accompany these diseases. This medication is a strong corticosteroid.

Precautions

Corticosteroids should not be used excessively for a long period of time and/or over a large area of skin. Such use can cause systemic side effects or side effects that occur in tissues independent of the application site of the ointment. Overuse of corticosteroids can lead to it being absorbed into the blood where it can cause a variety of undesirable effects. Common systemic side effects include stretch marks, acne, and skin atrophy, though there are other side effects that may be more dangerous.

This medication can cause cataracts and glaucoma if administered directly to the eye or eyelid. Use this medication externally only, and do not use it to treat a skin condition in or on the mouth, lips, or eyelids.

If hepatic impairment is a part of your medical history, you should use Lidex with caution and talk to a doctor before starting your treatment.

Do not use this medication if you have a hypersensitivity to fluocinonide or any other corticosteroid. Allergic reactions are life-threatening. Call for medical assistance immediately at the sign of an allergic reaction including swelling of the face, tongue. or throat that causes difficulty talking, breathing, or swallowing.

Tell your doctor if you have any previous medical conditions including blood disorders and immunocompromising diseases.

Do not use this medication to treat bacterial and fungal infections, or skin lesions from tuberculosis or viruses such as herpes simplex, vaccinia, or varicella.

Side Effects

Common:

It’s common for the skin to burn, sting, or itch and become dry or red for the first few days of treatment. Call your doctor if these effects do not go away after a week or two.

Rare:

Stretch marks, skin thinning/discoloration, acne, excessive hair growth, and folliculitis can appear on the skin where Lidex cream is/was applied. This can be a sign of corticosteroid overuse or over-application. Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms develop.

When this medicine is taken, skin infections might worsen. If your symptoms do not improve, consult your doctor.

Very Rare:

This medication can sometimes be absorbed into the bloodstream, which increases the risk of a medical condition called HPA axis suppression. Watch for signs of corticosteroid absorption including weakness, fatigue, general malaise, nausea, abdominal pain, sudden weight gain, swelling of the feet or ankles, or headaches. Contact your doctor right away if you experience systemic side effects from corticosteroid use.

Dosage

You should always follow your doctors’ instructions and guidelines for dosing.

Always apply this cream modestly; too much on one area or spread over a large area can be harmful. Use only a small amount to create a thin layer of cream on the skin, and only apply Lidex to the affected areas requiring treatment.

Depending on the severity of the condition, you may apply Lidex cream two to four times per day or as per your doctor’s instructions.
