Klaron Lotion for Acne

This lotion is used to treat and prevent acne vulgaris (the common form of acne experienced by 80% of people at one point in their lives).

Your doctor may prescribe klaron lotion for acne when over-the-counter acne treatments have failed to work in the past.

Klaron lotion generic form is available by the name sulfacetamide, the active ingredient in Klaron. Sulfacetamide is an antibiotic sulfonamide that kills bacteria on the skin and can diminish and erase whiteheads, blackheads, and other types of acne.

Can You Buy Klaron Lotion Over the Counter?

Some formulations of sulfacetamide may be bought without a prescription, while others require a prescription from a doctor. This lotion requires a prescription. Talk to your doctor if you’re not sure which acne treatment will be best indicated for you.

How to Use Klaron Lotion

Before using Klaron Lotion, shake the bottle well to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the solution. Wash your hands properly so as not to further pollute pores.

To apply, spread a thin layer of lotion on the affected areas, making sure to cover acne flare-ups. Do this twice a day for best results, usually once in the morning and once before bed. Klaron lotion is for external use only; you should avoid getting it in the eyes and rinse thoroughly with water if you accidentally do.

If you were given a Klaron lotion prescription by your doctor, you should follow any instructions they give you for dosing. Do not exceed the recommended dosage relevant to you.

If your acne does not improve after more than three weeks of treatment, call your doctor and ask about a different treatment.

How does it Work?

It’s thought that Klaron works by preventing bacteria from converting para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) into folic acid (vitamin B). Folic acid is essential to the growth of bacteria because it helps metabolize carbon to create cell components such as DNA, RNA, nucleotide acid, and amino acid.

By inhibiting the PABA substrate, bacteria cannot grow, and thus, they are unable to effectively reproduce. This means that cell division is not feasible, and they will soon die off.

Warnings

If there are any lacerations or abrasions (cuts, scrapes, burns, infections, or any wound where inner tissues are exposed) close to or on the affected areas, you should wait for them to heal before applying the lotion to it. Injuries that have damaged the skin will increase the chance that Klaron will be absorbed into the skin, leading to a higher chance of serious side effects.

If you are pregnant or nursing, you should speak with your doctor about the various risks and benefits associated with using Klaron to treat acne.
