What is Foltx medication for?
Foltx is a medical food that contains vitamins that are a necessary part of a healthy diet, and as such this medication is used for people with vitamin deficiencies that are a result of a condition or other factor preventing them from getting the proper vitamins they need.
Foltx contains vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12, and folic acid, all of which function as the active ingredient. It can be used to treat vitamin B12 deficiency, yet it is commonly used to treat hyperhomocysteinemia, a blood condition in which homocysteine levels become too high in the bloodstream. Hyperhomocysteinemia typically indicates low vitamin B-12 levels, and it can lead to serious illnesses including damage to the blood vessels in the heart or blood clots.
Folic acid and vitamins B-12 and B-6 are important for lowering homocysteine levels. Foltx may be used as an adjunct to diet and exercise, and it may be prescribed for reasons not listed above.
What causes hyperhomocysteinemia?
The most prominent cause of hyperhomocysteinemia is vitamin deficiencies due to a lack of proper vitamin intake, usually resulting from a meager or unhealthy diet or the presence of an underlying condition that inhibits the body’s ability to absorb and/or use vitamins B-12 or B-6. Other factors, such as lifestyle habits including alcohol consumption and smoking, as well as genetic factors have also been shown to be influencers that can lead to hyperhomocysteinemia.
Warnings and Precautions
The use of Foltx is prohibited for those who have a hypersensitivity to the ingredients used in the formulation of Foltx. Foltx contains many inactive ingredients that may be allergens for some, including but not limited to soy, glycerin, and gelatin. Always check the ingredients when taking a medical food supplement, and communicate with your doctor about any allergies you may have.
Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to have antithrombotic effects when more than 3 grams are taken per day. This means that blood clots will not be able to form properly, and bleeding can last for a long time. Tell your doctor if you are taking omega-3 supplements.
Some of the active ingredients in this supplement can have affect blood properties. Tell your doctor if you have or have had any condition that is related to a blood disorder.
Foltx Side effects
It’s not common to have a side effect with serious implications. However, you should stay vigilant in monitoring your health and report side effects if they are severe, persistent, or carry serious health implications.
Nausea, stomachache, diarrhea, drowsiness, flushing, and tingling sensations are the most common side effect. They will most likely be mild if they do occur, but you should see your doctor if they are manifesting in a severe manner.
If you experience a burning sensation throughout the body, swelling, mood swings, weakness, or feelings of swelling throughout the body; contact emergency medical services immediately. When beginning treatment, watch for signs of an allergic reaction, including skin rashes, hives, itching, swelling in the face or throat, and difficulty breathing/swallowing.
