Advair Diskus (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Indications
Advair Diskus, generic name fluticasone propionate and salmeterol, is used to treat airway inflammation and constriction that cause asthma. This inhaler can be prescribed for patients four years of age and older.
This drug is also used as a maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction and to reduce exacerbations in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Advair Diskus is not approved to provide relief for acute bronchospasm.
This prescription medication is a combination of a corticosteroid and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist. It has anti-inflammatory action, relaxes bronchial smooth muscle, and inhibits the release of mediators involved in the hypersensitivity response.

How To Use Advair Diskus:
- To open the inhaler, hold it with one hand and use the other hand to push the thumb grip until the mouthpiece is visible. The thumb grip snaps into place if opened correctly.
- Hold the device in a flat position with the mouthpiece towards you.
- Push the lever away from the mouthpiece. Once it clicks, check the counter and see if it displays “1”. The Advair Diskus will indicate that the inhaler is ready to use.
- Exhale fully and deeply.
- Hold your breath as you place the mouthpiece on your mouth with your lips closed tightly around it.
- Inhale deeply through your mouth.
- Hold your breath for about ten seconds or until it is comfortable for you.
