Axid is part of a group of drugs called histamine-2 blockers. It works by lowering the amount of stomach acid you produce. Axid is used to treat stomach ulcers. It also treats heartburn and erosive esophagitis caused by gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Store Axid at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Discard any unused Axid liquid that is older than 30 days.
Avoid taking Axid while taking Tagamet, Zantac, or Pepcid unless your doctor has told you to do so. Sometimes heartburn can be confused with symptoms of a heart attack. Seek emergency medical attention if you have chest pain or a heavy feeling in your chest, dizziness, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, sweating, nausea, or vomiting, and a general feeling of illness.
